Paddle Surf Scotland
Perthshire is the heart and soul of Scotland. It encapsulates a little bit of everything that Scotland has to offer....majestic peaks, raging rivers, beautiful villages, buzzing towns and cities. If you want to experience Scotland, its beauty, people, wildlife and landscape, then Perthshire and Tayside is your one stop shop.
For the Stand Up Paddleboarder it offers something for everyone, with great access and the opportunities to explore several places in a day.
As its so varied, we have broken down our choice of favourite spots into categories below. This is just the tip of the iceberg as the SUP potential in Perthshire and Tayside is unsurpassed.Perthshire is
Perthshire is blessed with lots of incredible lochs, both big and small, perfect for all levels. For beginners, smaller lochs, such as Clunie, Faskally and Lintrathen are great to find your feet on. Loch Freuchie offers remote feeling exploration with the added bonus of a trip up the River Quaich. The larger lochs of Tay, , Earn, Tummel and Rannoch offer huge touring potential for the more experienced. They can get more wind than those more sheltered lochs, but some amazing Downwinders can be had.
A good tip for Loch Tay, if its too windy to get out at Kenmore in the east, drive west to Killin and find shelter in its canal and islands.
Rivers are the veins which flow through and connect Perthshire and Tayside together. Of particular interest to Stand Up Paddleboarders are the Tay, the Earn and the Isla. The Rivers Isla and Earn have large stretches which flow gently through lovely countryside and are ideal for SUP touring.
The River Tay is Scotlands longest river, again offering a bit of everything, from gentle touring to paddleboardable whitewater. We offer River trips, intermediate Whitewater trips and River Surfing on the Tay. We would highly recommmend getting coaching or the relevant experience before going on Perthshires rivers.
Coastal and Surf -
Neighbouring onto Perthshire, Taysides coastal scenery can be stunning. Surf can be enjoyed at St Andrews, Kingsbarns, Arbroath, Lunan Bay and Montrose. Interesting paddles can be enjoyed from all these places along with Carnoustie, Auchmithie and Broughty Ferry. Always be aware of tides, winds and other elements when you are in a coastal environment.
