River Surfing

River Surfing

River Surfing is one of the most thrilling board sports around.  Feel the power of the river surge underneath as you miraculously glide on a standing wave. Whether a coastal surfer, paddleboarder or a whitewater kayaker or canoeist, River Surfing will be an addictive, inspirational new addiction for you.

River Surfing takes place on standing waves, surfing on a film of surging water while the rest of the river flows downstream around you. It can be a fantastic learning environment to progress your surfing for essential skills such as popping up and carving, enabling you to practice these maneuvers over and over again in a predictable environment rather than battling the many elements in ocean surfing that can make progression slower. Repetition of essential maneuvers helps improve muscle memory greatly speeding up progression.

We teach River Surfing on both Surfboards and Stand Up Paddleboards, depending on your preference and river levels. Just let us know which board sport you would prefer to do!!!. Either way its a full on, exhilarating adventure awaiting you. Prepare to fall in lots and swim in whitewater along the way, so a level of physical fitness is required. If you want to SUP River Surf, then we highly recommend that you are able to Stand Up Paddle on flatwater already.

Lessons take place, river levels, depending, on the River Tay in Perthshire. We use several different locations which are all dependent on the amount of water in the river. We have three waves that are ideal for River Sup Surfing, while one is ideal for River Surfing (this is a high water spot, so the Spring, Autumn and Winter are the most likely times of year for this).

Our SUP River Surfing and Introduction to Whitewater sessions are bookable online every Monday and Tuesday evenings from May till September. For River Surfing on a Surfboard, we recommend you contact us directly so that we can make sure the levels are suitable.

All equipment, clothing and safety gear is provided by us, and the sessions are usually either one to one, or very tiny group sizes, with Matt, our head guide and company owner, being one of the countries original and most experienced River Surfers.
